docks to enable teams to haul
merchandise to and from the
vessels. While passing along the
docks I get the first glimpse of
the railroad, A horse was hauling
some freight cars and I could
not help laughing the cars were
so small and the wheels so
large that they appeared to be
on stilts. One thing in particular
that attracted my attention was the
fine horses and I must say they
put the Amerivan draught horse
in the shade for they are the finest
I ever saw.
On reaching Water Street I found
I was to early for the bank was
not yet open, so to pass the time
I took a stroll into the heart of
the city, as I walked along everything
seems strange even the people
seemed different but one thing in
particular attracted my attention
was so many rosy cheeks almost
everyone I met had a rosy com-
plection and it puzzles me why
America with so dry a climate
has so few rosy cheeks while this
country is so damp and foggy and
would seen so much more unhea-
-thy has so few colorless cheeks.
Another thing which attracted my
attention was the two wheeled
carts which are the principal
vehicles used here and the driver
generally drives along as though he
were going to a fire at a breakneck
speed and always makes a sudden
halt and several times as I walk-
-ed along the pavement not think-
-ing one would drive up to the curb
at a breakneck speed and I would
start back thinking he would
