Although it has been cloudy and no sun visible to day it has never the less been pleasent on deck, and all the passengers are anoxciously looking for land which we expect to reach before many hours, Allthough it is but 6 PM I think I will retire for the night. for we hope to be in sight of land before long. So I bid all good night. and pleasant dreams. 8. PM Allthough I retired early I was unable to sleep for some of the passengers were to Jubilant at the prospects of being so near land. were to inconsistant to allow others to sleep, We have just received |
word that land is in sight
and so as sleep is impossible I may as well go on deck, 12 O.clock Midnight. After going on deck I found it as stated; the moon was shining brightly and so enabled us to see the dim gray line of land dotted with an occasional light- -house which evidently was the South West coast of Ireland, after sailing for about 4 hours with nothing visible but the gray line of land we at last come in sight of the lightship in Queenstown harbor. The sailors are busy preparing the mail to be sent ashore, which is in canvass bags all sealed and a lable attached bearing the name of their central station some for Dublin, London, Glasgow |
