the arrival of the ship
only to meet with such
a sad disappointment.
and never again to meet,
again, until the sea shall
give up her dead.
Jan 6th.
This is the roughest day
we have had yet, the wind
has increased in force and
the waves are continually
breaking over the bow of the
vessel, and it is not safe
for any one expect a sailor
to venture on deck. It is
so miserable below it
being very poorly ventilated
for the ventilators are
closed to keep the water
out, and we have not
been able to be on deck
for the last two days
but in spite of the rough
weather I wrapped up good
and ventured as far as the
Hatchway other passengers
were obliged to abandon the
same spot but being well
supplied with India Rubber
Clothes I stood it fairly
but not without getting
my face washed continu-
-ally with spray.
I’m not enjoying the best
of health to day I think
it is the result of ill
ventilated sleeping apart-
-ments. It is getting very
monotonous, so dull and
cheerless the only way to
pass the time, being to sleep.
But thank God we have
now traveled the biggest
half of the journey, 1640
