West and we are carrying full sail Jan 4th It had commenced to rain again the wind had changed to North East and all sail are taken in and I am afraid the ship will not make very much headway, most of the passengers are recovering from the seasickness and I am pleased to say I am too, for I eat the first meal to day since noon of the 2nd. It is very dreary the wind is blowing quite a gale and it is raining heavy and it is too cold to be out on deck but in spite of the rain and cold I manage to get on deck for a short time for fresh air for it is very close below |
4. PM. The passengers
have been trying to make it as cheeful as circumstances will allow by singing, card playing &s. 5.30 PM. We have just received very sad news, one of the Steerage Passengers a young man who is on his way to meet his wife and family has dropped dead in the hospital 2 hours ago he was sitting with us and he seemed very weak, although some of us were dancing to keep our feet warm he sas perspiring from weakness, his fate is very sad and his case well Illistrates the fact that wise men can take lessons from fools, it appears that to celebrate the New Year |
