it is blowing from the North
West and we are carrying full
sail
Jan 4th It had commenced
to rain again the wind had
changed to North East and
all sail are taken in and I
am afraid the ship will not
make very much headway,
most of the passengers are
recovering from the seasickness
and I am pleased to say I
am too, for I eat the first
meal to day since noon of the 2nd.
It is very dreary the wind is
blowing quite a gale and it
is raining heavy and it is
too cold to be out on deck
but in spite of the rain and
cold I manage to get on deck
for a short time for fresh
air for it is very close below
4. PM. The passengers
have been trying to make
it as cheeful as circumstances
will allow by singing, card
playing &s. 5.30 PM.

sad news, one of the Steerage
Passengers a young man
who is on his way to meet
his wife and family has
dropped dead in the hospital
2 hours ago he was sitting
with us and he seemed very
weak, although some of us
were dancing to keep our
feet warm he sas perspiring
from weakness, his fate is
very sad and his case well
Illistrates the fact that wise
men can take lessons from
fools, it appears that to
