Steamer City of Chicago of
the Inman Line is also
leaving port in the rear of
the French Steamer.
1.PM. we are outside Sandy
Hook and the heave of the
Ocean is plainly felt, and
one of the passengers when
I asked him what was the
matter answered me with;
Oh My;. The French Steamer
is gradually gaining on us.
3. PM. The French Steamer
has passed us, we have
stopped, something is wrong
with the Engines.
5. PM. The French Steamer
is out of sight and our delay
of 2 hours has given the
Inman Steamer the lead
also, we are running before
the wind with main top
sail set.
Sunday Jan 2nd 7. AM
The heave is increasing and
most of the passengers look
very much distressed and when
asked what ails them they
all say the same thing ‘ Oh
My;’ It is still raining 9. AM
it has stopped raining the
wind has changed to North
West and we are carring full
sail. I have stopped eating.
Jan 3rd I’ve got the Oh My’s
too and I now see what
made those poor fellows
look so distressed.
2. PM. The Sun is shining
and although the wind is
cold the deck is preferable
to below for everybody has
the Oh My’s. 6.PM.
The wind is still favorable
