The latter is famous as a
Naval Academmy and Military
Academy. From our position
we are at a disadvantage to
see all of the scenery, for the
eastern bank is hid from view
except where an occasional
cut in the Rocks affords a glance
as we dash along in the Rail
Road Cars. Poughkeepsie. Tarry-
town, and several other small
places being past High Bridge
is now looking in sight and
in 5 minutes more we have
passed under it a fine
piece of masonry, and famous
as the Aqueduct of New York
City. A few moments later
we cross the Rail Road bridge
(for it must be remembered
New York City is on an Island
know as Manhattan Island
the Hudson river forming two
branches at the northern
end of the Island, the
branch taking the eastern
shore being know as the
East river and the branch
taking along the west shore
the North River.) Soon after
crossing the Rail Road bridge
we enter a tunnel that
runs underneath the city
an occasional air hole being
all the light we see until
we arrive at the 42nd Street
Depot. This being the end
of my journey by rail I
consult my watch and
and find it is just 8.37 A.M.
28 minutes slower than
New York time for it must
be remembered I am
endeavoring to keep Pittsburgh
