I settle down for sleep. Dec 31st. After getting a little sleep I wake to find myself in Syracuse, Rochester being passed some 3 hours ago. After a stop of about 15 minutes to change engines and crew we start once more on our journey. The next place of interest is Albany at which place we arrive at 5.30 AM It is too dark to see outside, In the night we passed through the Catskill moun- tains but owning to the darkness I was unable to see any of the beautiful scenery for which these mountains are noted. At Albany we get the first glimpse of the |
famous River Hudson but
it is too dark to see anything beyond where the lights shine amongst the shipping 6.30.AM. (This is Pittsburgh time which I intend to keep as long as I can) At last we begin to discern the opposite bank of the Hudson and it is indeed as beautiful as described by artists and tourists and it well deserves the name it has amoungst the admirers of scenery The scenery is so varied that any one who is and admirer of nature can find something to suit his taste. We have the wild ragging rocky craigs studdyed with pines, here and there dashing streams breaking over the rocks |
