After a deal
of hurry and bustle which
my unexpected call necessitates, the neccessary preperations for the trip, all in readiness, and after bidding all my friends one more good bye, and also the best wishes of all at home, and especially a Father’s and Mother’s last wish of success, I now find myself aboard a P. & L.E.R.R. train bound for New York. After traveling some 8 or 9 miles I come in sight of Glenfield across the river but all I can see is a few lights for it is now 12 O’clock Midnight. The Next place of interest is Phillipsburgh – it is the same old place The Phoenix Glass Works stands as usual surrounded by Natural |
gas lights. After leaving Phillips-
burgh all places of interest being passed and also too dark to distin- guish anything except places with which I am familiar, I now settle down in hopes of getting a little sleep, But the cars run so roughly that sleep is impossible in fact at one time I became quite alarmed for all at once the train glided along smoothly and I was afraid it had jumped the track. Well the train lost time (as the P&LE trains do) the con- sequence was we were 15 min- utes too late at Youngstown to make connections so they transfered the cars on to Ashtabula arriving their at 4.40 AM ^ and I will have x (Pittsburgh time) |
